Ahead of Tuesday night’s friendly international match between Nigeria and Kenya in Abuja, Super Eagles head coach, Samson Siasia says the midfield of his team must improve.
Siasia says they may have scored more goals against Ethiopia on Sunday but his midfield did not work as it should, especially in the first half.
“We started with just two members in midfield, Mikel and Joel and they had more than us and we really didn’t have it.
“In the second half we changed formation and actually started to do the scoring which was most important for me,” Siasia said.
“In the first half we actually struggled in midfield because we were not returning to mark. In the second half we asked somebody to come back that changed it for us.”
As regards John Mikel Obi, Siasia pleaded for Nigerians to be patient with him.
“Mikel did very well and I don’t think we have to change the way he is playing. We must congratulate him for the way he plays and wait patiently because we are working on him to start moving up front to shoot at goal.
“We all know this is a new team and we are working a lot on tactical discipline and we will have a team Nigerians can be proud of but we need patience,” Siasia said.
