Former Sharks striker, Azuka Izu (In Sharks colours on the left)has been included in the Olympic football team squad to play Tanzania in Dares-Salam in the first leg second round Olympic Games qualifier this weekend.
Azuka who now plays for Al Ittihad of Libya was drafted into the twenty-one man squad following the departure of Aberdeen attacking midfielder Sone Aluko, who was granted permission to go sort out club matters.
With Aluko, Uchechi and Ehiosun out of the team, chances are Azuka would be first choice to start against the Tanzanians.
“After watching the first round second leg game between Tanzania and Cameroon in Dares-Salam I must confess that we have the team to go pick the three points on Sunday,” Stanley Eguma, the team’s assistant coach declared.
“This is not to say that we are under rating the Tanzanians. We are conscious of the fact that there are no minnow any more in Africa football but we are at the same time determined to go all out for the three points so as to make the return leg a mere formality,” he added.
Meanwhile spokesman of the team, Arafat Aliu has also confirmed that Leicester City’s attacking midfielder Uchechi Daniel who suffered a muscle tear in the friendly against Costa Rica has headed back to the United Kingdom.
He also informed that club engagements have ruled out Ganiu Oseni from the Dares-Salam cracker.
