Former Nigeria National football team winger, chief Adokiye Amiesimaka received the embarrassment of his life on Tuesday as internet hackers took control of his yahoo account.
A message emanating from his account, email@example.com and to several people including naijafootball247.com read “Hope you get this on time, sorry I didn’t inform you about my trip in Spain for a Program, I’m presently in Madrid and am having some difficulties here because i misplaced my wallet on my way to the hotel where my money and other valuable things were kept. presently i have limited access to internet, I will like you to assist me with a loan of 2,600 Euros to sort-out my hotel bills and to get myself back home.
I have spoken to the embassy here but they are not responding to the matter effectively, I will appreciate whatever you can afford to assist me with, I’ll Refund the money back to you as soon as I return, let me know if you can be of any help. I don’t have a phone where I can be reached. Please let me know immediately.
But Amiesimaka told naijafootball247.com via the telephone that he never sent any message and has been in Port Harcourt all along.
“It is embarrassing that someone is using my email account to beg for money and I must tell you that I have received lots of calls from people who got the same message inquiring if all was well,” he said.
“Funny enough I can’t get into the account any more so there is no way I can send a counter mail saying it’s all false.
“I beg you to help spread this word around that I am not in Spain and I’m not in any financial problem. People who get that mail must ignore it.”
Adokiye Amiesimaka was part of Nigeria’s Green Eagles team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1980 and went on to become chairman of Premier League side, Sharks FC in the 90s until 2003.
