Disgraced former captain of Nigeria’s U17 team, Fortune Chukwudi will be recalled to the U20 team, the Flying Eagles ahead of the World Youth Championships next month.
Chukwudi was dropped from the Nigerian U20 side for the Africa Youth Championships in South Africa last month but head coach of the side, John Obuh says his former captain may be making a return.
“I have discussed the issue of Fortune at length and I expect us to understand the position.
“It’s not about performance that he was dropped from the Africa Youth Championships squad,” Obuh told naijafootball247.com.
“One or two reasons made us dropped Chukwudi from the team but now we have qualified for the World Cup he will be back. It is not about his performance.”
The Flying Eagles recently opened camp in Port Harcourt and it is expected that Fortune Chukwudi will be amongst those called up to join the squad.
Just after the opening match of the FIFA U17 Championships two years ago, Adokiye Amiesimaka, a former chairman of Nigeria Premier League side, Sharks revealed that Chukwudi was part of his club in 2003 as an 18 year old and as such it would have been impossible for him to still be 17 in 2009.
It is alleged that Chukwudi played club football in Libya and as such his real age is documented there and that is why he was dropped from the Africa Youth Championships which would have held in the northern African country before crisis caused it to be moved to South Africa.
