Nigeria’s Olympic football team midfielder, Nosa Igiebor (left)has admitted that they under rated the Tanzanians in the Olympic Games qualifier on Sunday.
Nigeria lost 1-0 in the match, an 82nd minute goal from Ulimwengu Emmanuel.
Igiebor said after the match that they underrated their opponents and paid with the loss.
“It’s sad and difficult to say but I think the main point here is that we underrated the boys and that’s just the truth about it.
“When we looked at them we thought the game had been won the game even before it started,” Igiebor said.
“We were far better than them in everything. We had 18 chances at goal and could not convert anything. They had their only chance and they scored. I think we under rated the boys that’s just the big problem there,” he explained.
The Midfielder who has scored four goals so far in the qualifiers, appealed to Nigerians to put the defeat behind them promising that the return leg will be different.
“I know Nigerians are disappointed right now. There is no excuse for failure. We failed and I apologise to Nigerians on behalf of my colleagues but I also want to promise Nigerians that the return leg will be a different ball game.
“We just want to promise them that we are going to kill them from the blast of the whistle. For everything that happened in Dares-Salaam we have learnt our lessons and we are happy that we have a chance to correct our mistakes,” Nosa added.
