Popular musician/ comedian, Julius Agwu has decided to delve into football as he sponsors the Akpor Football Talent Hunt Competition to be played out amongst the ten communities in Akpor Kingdom of Rivers State.
According to Agwu, he wants to encourage the people of his area and give back to the place he comes from.
“I thought long and hard about it and I decided that if I want to give back to the people it should not be a music or comedy thing.
“We all know that football is the in thing these days and I am privileged to know a lot of these former Super Eagles players and football academy owners who I have decided to invite over to watch the competition and possibly pick out talents who may play football to the highest level,” Agwu said.
Already former Super Eagles captain, Austin Jay Jay Okocha and Flying Eagles coach, John Obuh have confirmed their availability for the opening match on Sunday, November 13, 2011 while the likes of Celestine Babayaro, Samson Siasia and Peter Rufai may yet make an appearance.
Already Akpor Kingdom of Rivers State is full of excitement at the prospect of their youth playing in a competition that could be watched by national team coaches.
The competition is meant of U20 youth with an allowance for three over aged players who must not be more than 25 years old.
The games will be played at the Our Lady of Lourdes Secondary School, formerly Akpor Grammar School, Ozuoba.
