River Angels thrashed eternal rivals, Bayelsa Queens 3-1 in their opening match of the season played at the Port Harcourt Liberation Stadium on Saturday.
Ngozi Ebere opened scores for the Port Harcourt based side while Ameze Aighewi got a brace, all in the first half of the encounter watched by an encouraging crowd.
Bayesla United got her consolation goal in added time through Equato-Guinean international Ngozi Dialla.
After the game, Rivers Angels coach, Whyte Ogbondah said he was happy to get all three points in the first match of the season and targets winning a double.
“Right now we are the defending Champions of the FA Cup and we intend to defend our FA Cup and bring the two trophies to Port Harcourt”.
The Technical Adviser of Bayelsa Queens, Moses Aduku blamed the loss of his side to late preparations.
“It is our first game of the season, we came away, we started late in our preparations and we hope to get it right as the season progresses,” he said.
Aduku added that his side will still fight for the title despite losing their first match of the season.
“Losing the first match does not mean we are out of the Championship. The problem with Bayelsa Queens is finance and I hope with this new Government we will get it right.”
