Super
Eagles top scorer, Emmanuel Emenike is now a Guinness Brand Ambassador
Guinness,
one of the sponsors of the national team unveiled Emenike in Calabar just after
Nigeria qualified for the World Cup beating Ethiopia 4-1 over two legs.
Managing
Director and Chief Executive of Guinness Nigeria, Seni Adetu said at the unveiling
that Guinness believed in the Eagles when all other brands had lost hope.
“Two
years ago, no one wanted to touch the Eagles with a long pole. The national
team had just failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations and sponsors
stayed away,” He said.
“However,
it was at that point that we (Guinness) decided to identify the more with them
and we are happy that we are still here with them as they have qualified for
the World Cup less than one year after winning the Africa Cup of Nations.
“Remember
when we had that Guinness Fly with the Eagles campaign when we had fans sign on
what is still the biggest ever football jersey? That was Guinness believing in
the Eagles.” He said.
Emmanuel
Emenike thanked Guinness for counting him worthy of being a brand ambassador
but most of all gave the credit for his Super Eagles form to national team
manager, Stephen Keshi.
“I
just want to say thanks to Guinness for their support for the Super Eagles. It really
helped.
“I
also want to say thank you to God for his blessings on my life but I must also
thank our coach, Stephen Keshi for what he has done in my international career,”
Emenike said.

“He
is the one who believed in me even when no one did. I was with the team that
did not qualify for the nations Cup then he came in and saw something in me and
he believed I could do something for him so I want to say thank you to Stephen
Keshi for bringing me into his team.”
Guinness
also used the
occasion to present the sum of $4,000 for the two goals scored against the Ethiopians
