Stephen
Keshi has revealed his delight at Kenneth Omeruo’s return to the Super Eagles
squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia.
The
Chelsea defender has not represented his country since picking up a shoulder injury
in Nigeria’s 3-0 defeat to Spain at the Confederations Cup in June, and will
provide Keshi with stability at the back in the crucial play-off in Calabar.
Omeruo
was expected back sooner but he aggravated the injury in training with the
Blues in August, requiring surgery to correct the issue.
Keshi
believes his presence is vital as the Super Eagles look to protect a 2-1
advantage from the first-leg against the Walya Antelopes.
“It’s
good to have him back. He’s part of the team. We all saw what he has been doing
for the national team and he will certainly make the defence stronger and
better,” he told SuperSport.
“I
always followed his progress even when he was injured and I was pleased to know
he had recovered and is now playing again.
“Every
coach wants his best players available and I am no different.”
