Super
Eagles and Académica de Coimbra midfielder, John Ogu says he is ready to hit
the ground running with team ahead of the weekend’s FIFA Brazil 2014 World Cup
Qualifier against Ethiopia.
Ogu
told naijafootball247.com that the Ethiopians have a good side and they cannot
take them for granted despite winning 2-1 away from home.
“I
will try to do my best. Any time I get a chance to play I will give my best. I know
how important the game is and if I get a chance to play, I will give my
best,” Ogu said.
“Nigerians
should not relax yet and I know the players will not relax too because there is
still a lot to play for.
“It
is not over yet and we the players know what is at stake because in football
anything can happen.”
Calabar
has turned out to be a spiritual home of some sorts for the Eagles but Ogu says
the players are happy where ever they play.
“We
do not really get involved in the politics of where the team play its games but
whenever we are called we give our best.
“We
are happy with Calabar and we believe we will win and qualify for the World Cup
straight up,” he said.
“I
know I’m not a super regular player with the team but I know that I will get my
chance occasionally and when it comes I just want to give my best.”
Ogu
got his first call up to the Eagles in In March 2013 and debuted against Kenya
in a 1–1 draw, where he was used as a substitute to replace an injured Victor
Moses.
His
first international goal against Mexico in a friendly game which took place at
the Reliant Stadium in Houston.
