Super
Eagles and Lazio midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi says qualifying with Nigeria for the
World Cup is the biggest achievement of his career.
“I
feel honoured to have been voted as man of the match and I also feel on top of
the world as qualifying is the biggest achievement of my career so far,”
he said.
“It
was all about the grace of God and determination. The World Cup is the most
important tournament in the world for a footballer.
Onazi
told Naijafootball247.com just after the game against Ethiopia on Saturday that
the playing against Ethiopia was not difficult but that the players just took
their time to understand them after the first goal.
“I
don’t agree it was a difficult game. We were trying to take our time because we
knew that they were going to come out to get a goal so we studied them in a very
good way and played on the counter,” Onazi said.
The
former Golden Eaglet told naijafootball247.com that he is honoured to be part
of this Nigerian team that has qualified for the World Cup.
Onazi
first played for Nigeria’s U!6 team at the FIFA World Cup of 2009 and after
that moved to Lazio in Italy.
He
made his Super Eagles debut in an African Cup of Nations qualification match
against Liberia.
Onazi’s
first goal came in just his second international match, a 3-1 friendly win over
Venezuela in Florida.
