Embattled
Super Eagles invitee, Aaron Samuel insists he is in the National team on merit.
Aaron
has been under attack by sections of the Nigerian press who believe he has no
business in the national team because he plays in the Chinese league with Guangzhou
R&F
“The
fact that I play in China does not mean I do not deserve to play in the Eagles,”
Samuel said.
“Everyone
knows why they play in whatever club they play in. There is also a reason I am
in my Chinese club. The fact that I play in China does not mean I do not
deserve to be in the national team,” Samuel said.
“I
deserve to play in the Super Eagles and I have something to offer to the team.”
Samuel
came in as a second half substitute against Sudan on Saturday, replacing Nosa
Igiebor but did not offer much to the team.
Aaron
started his professional football career with Dolphins in 2011 then joined
Shooting Stars a year later before leaving for Norway to sign for Valalenga.
At
Guangzhou R&F this season, Samuel has played 13 league games and scored 5
goals.
