Defending
Champions, Rivers Angels came from two goals down to secure a 2-2
draw in the 1st leg semifinal game of the Women’s Aiteo/ Federation
Cup semi final against Bayelsa Queens in Nembe on Saturday.

Ifeoma
Ikenokwalu scored from the spot to gift the Jewel of Rivers an
important advantage as they head home for the second leg in Port
Harcourt.

Bayelsa
Queens dominated the first half as the Port Harcourt side struggled
to get hold of the midfield.

It
was Macleans Okogba who opened scoring for the hosts in the 27th
minute before Anibaba Ayomide doubled it three minutes later.

Bayelsa
Queens went into the break with a comfortable advantage over the
Jewel of Rivers.

However
Rivers Angels head coach, Edwin Okon wasted no time in making early
changes in the second half as he brought in Chioma Wogu for Cecilia
Nku while Ugo Njoku came on for Chinaza Uchendu in the 48th minute.

It
was Wogu who pulled one back for the Port Harcourt side from a goal
mouth scramble on 65 minutes.

Just
when the hosts thought they had it in their bag, one of their
defenders handled the ball inside the penalty box and referee Hannah
Eliagwu pointed to the spot in the 85th minute.

Bayelsa
Queens goalkeeper, Alaba Jonathan was sent off following a
confrontation with the referee and Favour Nwaohia stepped in but
couldn’t do anything to stop the Ikenokwalu’s kick in the 90th
minute.

After
the game, Rivers Angels coach, Edwin Okon said the result was a good
one for his side.

“My
girls really fought hard today, especially in the second half,”
Okon said.

“We
didn’t have a good start in the opening half but got our house back
on track in the second half.

“With
today’s result, we have a very good advantage ahead of the second leg
in Port Harcourt,” he added.

The
second leg will hold on Wednesday, October 4 at the Yakubu Gowon
Stadium in Port Harcourt.
