Lobi Stars striker, Anthony
Okpotu was on Tuesday night named the League Bloggers’ Awards, LBA
player of the season for 2017.

In the highlight of the day,
Okpotu beat off stiff competition from Plateau United’s Daniel
Itodo, Alhassan Ibrahim who was with Akwa United and Stephen Odey,
formerly of MFM to take the coveted award.

Okpotu had earlier won the
award for top scorer in the League following his 19 goal haul.

Peter
Eneji of Plateau United beat Chinedu Udechukwu (Katsina
United), Destiny Ashadi (Katsina United), Oche Salefu (Remo Stars)
and Wasiu Alalade ABS FC) to win the Best New Player Award.

For
the Best Foreigner in the League gong, Giscard Tchatto (MFM FC) was
tops over Kodjovi Dadzie (Akwa United), Fatau Dauda (Enyimba) and
Idrissa Bamba (FC Ifeanyiubah).

Suraj
Ayeleso of Nasarawa United won the award for Best Goalkeeper ahead of
Niger Tornadoes’ Aliko Mustapha, Dele Ajiboye of Plateau United and
Ojo Olorunleke (Sunshine Stars/ Akwa United.

Daniel
Itodo of Plateau United was picked as Best Defender in the League
while Enyimba’s Bartholomew Ibenegbu was announced as the League’s
best midfielder.

League
champions, Plateau United were announced as Club of the year as their
coach, Kennedy Boboye picked the award of Coach of the year.

The
best NPFL National Team Player award went to FC Ifeanyi Ubah
goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa.

MFM
FC midfielder, Sikiru Olatunbosun’s wonder strike against Rangers
in Lagos was picked as the Goal of the Season.

For
the first time in the LBA, awards were given to players in the 2nd
tier, Nigeria National League, NNL and Women League.

Rasheedat
Ajibade of FC Robo was picked as best NWFL player, defeating the
likes of Amarachi Okonkwo (Nasarawa Amazons), Patience Kalu
(Rivers Angels) and Charity Reuben (Ibom Angels).

Michael
Ohanu, who played for newly promoted Kwara United in the season in
question was named best player in the NNL, beating Ebere Obi
(Heartland), Mohammed Rabiu (Yobe Desert Stars) and Kelly Lubo
(Bayelsa United) to the award.
