As Egypt prepares to get their campaign off against Group A outsiders Zimbabwe later this evening, the coach of the warriors Sunday Chidzambwa believes his squad can upset the odds in Group A and qualify to the next round of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Zimbabwe’s Qualification Odds from AFCON 2019 Group A

The Warriors are currently ranked 110 in the world and 26 in Africa with 1190 points and will be making their 2nd Consecutive AFCON. This is their 3rd overall participation.

They are, however, yet to progress beyond the group stage at the Africa Cup of Nations in their previous outings.

In 2017 they finished at the bottom of their group but gave some very spirited showings against Senegal, Tunisia and Algeria.

They qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations courtesy of winning Group G, and in doing so they picked up four points against DR Congo, who they will also face in their final group fixture at the finals.

Sunday Chidzambwa will hope on some decent players like striker Knowledge Musona and talented midfielder Marvelous Nakamba who has featured in the UEFA Champions League for Club Brugge for a chance of snatching a qualification to the next round.

Egypt’s Qualification Odds from AFCON 2019 Group A

  • Pharaohs Remain Favourites

For the Pharaohs of Egypt, they will desire maximum points tonight as they file out against the warriors. The form and sharpness of Mo Salah will be pivotal to Egypt’s chances of going all the way as Hosts.

Egypt won both of their warm-up matches ahead of the competition, a 1-0 victory against Tanzania was followed by a 3-1 win against Guinea last Sunday when Salah came off the bench in the second half and weighed in with two assists.

Uganda and Congo DR, the other two teams in the group A will on Saturday battle for supremacy.

Uganda’s Qualification Odds from AFCON 2019 Group A

  • Uganda may be safe with Onyango

The Cranes of Uganda are Ranked 16th in Africa, they had a good run in the qualifiers finishing first in their group and conceded only to Tanzania. They have competed at the tournament six times and the team completed their AFCON preparation with a 1-0 victory against the Ivory Coast last Saturday.

They will rely much on their skipper Denis Onyango who has had a blissful season with his club (Mamelodi Sundowns) in the Premier Soccer League in South Africa and helped them clinch the 2017/2018 CAF Champions League Trophy.

Dennis Onyango

His spectacular saves denied the Super Eagles goal scoring opportunities in their last international friendly in Asaba.

Other talents in the team are Farouk Miya – who is likely to be one of Uganda’s main forwards at the tournament scored 22 international goals so far and talented Khalid Aucho ( Churchill Brothers).

DR Congo’s Qualification Odds from AFCON 2019 Group A

  • DR Congo may have some magic

Meanwhile, The Leopard of DR Congo have progressed through to the knock out stages at each of the last two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and achieved a third-place finish in 2015.

Yannick Bolassie

Currently 6th on Africa FIFA rankings, and have struggled to turn draws into wins in recent games but will hope on players like Yannick Bolasie (Anderlecht), and Arthur Masuaku of ( West Ham) to do the magic in the group.
