Obete and Ayama/ Okoloma have made it through to the quarter-finals of the Osteen Ejiasa/ Ndoki Unity Cup after Match Day 17 and 18 games.

After a one month break, hostilities resumed for the third round of group games which on Saturday saw Ohanso walk over Obunku who failed to show up.

At the Egberu centre on Sunday, fans turned out in the numbers despite the rain from start to finish to watch two contenders for the title take on each other.

Ifeanyi “Balotelli” Patrick went into the record book with the fastest goal of the tournament with just 14 seconds into the game as a defensive error by goalkeeper Lewis clearing the ball into his own defender presented Patrick with an open net for the opener.

Obete fought hard for the equaliser and deservedly got it 9 minutes into the second half with a brilliant freekick on the edge of the box by Kelvin.

Both teams searched for the winner to no avail despite Ayama/Okoloma going a man down in the 75th minute when hard-tackling defender, Ifeanyi Patrick got the marching order for a second bookable offense.

Obete now tops the group A with 5 points but on superior goals with Ayama/Okoloma on same points.

Ohanso finished with 4 points but crashed out with Obunku on 1 point.

Up next will be Group B encounters where Mgboji will tackle Egberu at the Okoloma centre on Saturday, July 27, 2019, while Azumini will take on Afam Ukwu/Nta at the Dr. Otuka’s Sports Complex, Ohanso on Sunday, July 28, 2019.
