Former Go Round FC and Yobe Desert Stars coach, Ngozi Elechi has departed Warri Wolves even before the start of the League season.
Elechi joined Warri Wolves less five weeks ago and it was a shock when his departure was made public on Friday.
A statement from the club said they parted ways on mutual consent, though it seems that the poor pre-season results of the team could have been a factor.
A person who should know told NigerianFootballer.com that the management of the team was not comfortable with the poor pre-season results.
“We did not win a single game in pre-season and it is clear that you visualize how the League will go by these off-season games,” the source said.
Under Ngozi Elechi, Warri Wolves had lost three pre-season games to Akwa United, Rangers and Enyimba. The loss against Enyimba was the most painful as it ended 5-0.
At the Nigeria National League play-offs, they lost both games to Akwa Starlets and the 3rd place match to Jigawa Golden Stars.
However, a statement, apparently emanating from the camp of Elechi insists it was on mutual consent as both sides ‘couldn’t reach an agreement’.
Meanwhile, to fill up the vacuum, the new entrants into the Nigeria Professional Football League have hired Evans Ogenyi as the new man in charge.
Ogenyi had for the last few seasons been at Lobi Stars until the arrival of Gbenga Ogunbote a few months ago.
Ogenyi had coached at Enyimba, Nasarawa United, Jigawa Golden Stars and Ocean Boys.
