Legendary Nigerian League player, Victor Ezeji has been named Ambassador of the Radio Nigeria/ Treasure FM Port Harcourt Kid Football Challenge as the competition has undergone some rebranding.
Treasure FM Kids Football Challenge has undergone some rebranding with a new logo and an ambassador named.
At a brief logo and promotional materials unveiling ceremony at the Treasure FM premises, Mgbouba in Port Harcourt, Ezeji was decorated as Sports Ambassador for the event.
The Zonal Director, FRCN South South, Jonas Emechebe, represented by Deputy Director, Engineering Services, Patrick Udoh, emphasized on the theme of the program “lets catch them young.”
He posited that the first edition of the kids football competition recorded a huge success and in the nearest future the initiative will discover talents that will do Nigeria Proud in Africa and the world at large.
“I feel particularly delighted to witness a day like this. Only a few months back, this compound was agog with the first edition of this competition. And of course riding on the success story we told ourselves that there is need to start the second edition early enough so that those that missed out in the first edition will not have any reason not to key into this edition.
“It is our desire, especially myself that in the next couple of years we will have some persons, products of this competition that probably will be the newest Ronaldo and Messi of Nigeria.
“With the support of everybody and the Rivers State Government especially with plans to kick off the Real Madrid Academy, I think there is some level of synergy; I think we can drive from that. It is our desire to always partner with the state government.”
Victor Ezeji told NigerianFootballer.com that he was delighted to be part of the innovation
“Well, I always tell people that if we weren’t given this platform, I don’t think we would have been where we are today. So anytime I have the opportunity of being called upon to assist especially the kids, I am always ready to do that.
“With the catch them young theme, we need to support what Radio Nigeria is doing because they have decided to do things that many won’t want to do. For them to have gone this far, all we need do is to support them,” Ezeji told NigerianFootballer.com.
“Being their Ambassador, I think the kids can look up to someone and say ‘yes we can achieve greatness in our football career’ and by God’s grace if they look up to me, I am always ready to guide them to the right path. And I believe that with what Radio Nigeria has decided to do, they will get it right.
The logo and promotional materials were formally unveiled by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Communication, Paulinus Nsirim, who was represented by Director, Public Enlightenment, Obele Chu.
The unveiling was also attended by prominent personalities across Ministries in Rivers State and corporate bodies.
The maiden edition of the Treasure FM Rivers Football Kids Challenge in Rivers State held earlier this year with 12 schools registering for the event.
The tournament is packaged to inspire our little ones to be great players in future, to play for this country and play for great clubs abroad,
Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Kola Oredipe, reiterated to NigerianFootballer.com that the planning committee would work hard to make the 2nd edition a huge success and called for more corporate sponsorship.
“We are confident that the second edition will be bigger than what we had in the first edition. We will get corporate sponsorship in this edition as we have already made contacts and we are getting positive results from a lot of bodies that interested in ensuring that we catch these young ones at a very tender age.”
