The Referees and disciplinary Committee of the Ahlan Cup have suspended Willie Udube with immediate effect.
Udube is a coach with Abia Warriors and after a meeting on Kano on Friday, he was found guilty of offences bordering on being unruly and failure to keep his emotions in check.
The meeting routinely reviewed the performance of all referees and coaches on the bench in the tournament and said it was making the decision on Willie Udube.
Udube was unruly and could not keep his emotions in check during Abia Warriors’ match against Rarara FC which they eventually lost. The match was played at the Sanni Abacha Stadium on Thursday, 10 October 2019.
“The Committee has decided to suspend him from sitting on the bench in their last group match on Sunday with a fine of N15,000 before their game on Sunday,” the statement read.
Referee sanctioned too
A referee, Ibrahim Usman has been suspended with immediate effect.
The committee said it was taking the decision as a result of Ibrahim Usman’s flagrant mismanagement of matches.
“Referee Ibrahim Usman lost absolute control of the match between Elkanemi Warriors and DMD FC played at the Kano Pillars Stadium on Thursday, 10 October 2019.
“He was not able to manage several frustrating antics of players during the match in spite of the helpful support from his assistant referees.
“The Committee has decided to suspend him from Ahlan Cup campaign for 2019 with immediate effect,” the statement read.
