Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Bonaventure has stated that his second Belgian league title came as a surprise to him.
Bonaventure revealed that he was with a friend playing table tennis when he learned Club Brugge had been crowned Belgian League Champions.
The Nigerian star shared the news after he learned that the country’s FA has decided to end the 2019-20 season due to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.
“I was with my friends and we were playing ping pong.
“I saw that somebody tagged me on something and I went to look at it. And the message said you are the champion, congratulations,” Bonaventure told Sky sports news.
“It’s a strange way to win but that’s life,” Bonaventure said.
Bonaventure added that they would normally have a party but that would not be possible right now.
“Normally, we would have a party but that’s not possible right now, so what I plan to do is stay home with my friends and girlfriend and just drink some champagne.”
This is the second time that the 22-year-old has lifted the silverware since he moved to the Jan Breydel Stadium in 2017.
Bonaventure who scored twice in the Champions League earlier this season has been linked with a move away from his present club, which was confirmed by his manager Philips Clement
Club Brugge was 15 points better than the second-place team, Gent with just one match to wrap up the season.
