Super Eagles and AC Omonia goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho says he does not blame people who doubt the age on his International passport.
While speaking on Sportszone, a live radio show on Lagos Talks, Uzoho admitted that he actually looks older than his age.
“I don’t really blame guys who doubt my age. I have to go along with it. It is part of the game so I have to live with it.
“I will give it to them, I look older than my age but you can’t blame me for that. Some things are out of my hands, but I worked to build this physique you guys are seeing now.
“If you check my picture in 2013 at the Under seventeen National Team, you won’t believe the development. So, I had to work and build myself because being slim and lanky I can’t be in the post and play against guys like Messi and Higuan, so I had to develop my self,” Uzoho said.
He added that for a sportsman and a goalkeeper, the size and physique matters a lot so he took time to work on himself.
“These things are something. For a sportsman, for a goalkeeper, you have to develop your self, so that was what I did.”
Uzoho also argues that it is easy for Nigerians to talk about his age the way they do because many people did not know him until he got called up to the Super Eagles just before the World Cup.
“I have been in the picture when it comes to club sides for a long time. I have been in academies where I have travelled to play in U13 and U14 sides against Barcelona, Real Madrid, and the likes.
“At the club sides they know my name but at the National Team they didn’t know me and when people do not know you, they try to look for something to say whatever they want.”
Francis Uzoho was actually part of Nigeria’s U17 National Team that won the World Cup in 2013 and then he disappeared into Europe from the Aspire Academy which he was a part of.
As a member of the Depotivo La Coruna team in 2017, he got called up to the Super Eagles, making his debut against Argentina in Krasnodar in a friendly match.
He went on to play for Nigeria at the World Cup in Russia as first-choice goalkeeper.
Ever since his call up to the National Team, the debate about his age has not stopped.
