The Nigeria Football Federation has said that it considered the fact that Gernot Rohr has earned the right to continue on the job before giving him a new contract.
Gernot Rohr just got a contract extension that will take him to 2022 after the next FIFA World Cup in Qatar and President of the Federation, Amaju Pinnick says, among other things, Rohr earned it.
“We are of the view and conviction that Mr. Gernot Rohr deserves to continue the job he is doing with the Super Eagles.
“I believe he has earned it. He had a right of first refusal so it was not a problem,” Pinnick said in a zoom meeting with selected journalists from across Nigeria and abroad.
Pinnick added that other clauses were included in the contract but it was a good thing both parties eventually had an agreement.
“We included a few other things in his contract but at the end of the day we were able to come to an agreement.
“Presently, I am proud of the squad that we have. Without gainsaying, we have good players competing for every department on the field in the Super Eagles squad.
“It is exciting and we believe the team is on to a good thing. It is important that we work with him to nurture together a team that we can all be proud of,” Amaju Pinnick said.
Gernot Rohr took over as coach of the Super Eagles in 2016 after the departure of Sunday Oliseh and then Sampson Siasia as caretaker manager.
He led the team to the World Cup in 2018 and then the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019.
