Enyimba goalkeeper, Theophilus has been tempted by a mega offer from Rivers United that could see him dump his current club.
Rivers United have offered Afelokhai N1.2m monthly as salary (about $3, 300), to move over to Port Harcourt and Afelokhai told NigerianFootballer.com exclusively that he is considering it.
“Yes it is true. They made the offer,” Afelokhai told NigerianFootballer.com.
“It is not about dumping Enyimba. I was in another club when Enyimba offered me good money too so I joined them.
“The offer from Rivers United is a good one. It is good money. It is left for me to accept or refuse it.”
Not all about money
Despite the size of the package, Afelokhai insists his decision, if he chooses to come to Port Harcourt is not based only on money.
“It is not only about money. I have good relationship with many people there. Like the commissioner (Boma Iyaye) is my boss. Eguma is also my coach from way back, as well as other coaches there.
“Rivers United is a club I have always wanted to play for from day one.”
Afelokhai insists he has not made up his mind yet, but he is seriously considering the offer.
“I believe that money is not every thing but it is also part of everything. I also have to consider relationships first with the people I just mentioned. and how we work together.
“It is a good money and I do not think that there is any player here that will not consider it.
“At Enyimba I am also the highest paid player. So, for you to pull me out of Enyimba, you know what it means. You have to offer me something that will touch me.
Theophilus Afelokhai won multiple League titles with Kano Pillars before he moved to Enyimba where he won the League too.
He is regarded by many as the best goalkeeper in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
