It was another painful ending on Monday as we were let down by ONE “unfortunate team” who vitiated our Monday’s Straight Wins ACCA Special
A more careful edit, as we always advise, could have taken out the unfortunate Rosengard (W). We won’t give up, we keep going!
There are plenty of midweek football actions across Europe, Africa and Asia today. The focus, however, is on the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League which concludes its semi-final fixtures.
At the city of Lisbon, Nigerian born Austrian defender David Alaba will lead the defence line for German Bundesliga Champions, Bayern Munich, when they slug it out with Olympique Lyon for the final spot at the Estádio José Alvalade.
Bayern Munich enter their 12th UEFA Champions League (UCL) semi final under the post-1992 format, after thrashing Barcelona 8-2. They have a success rate of 45.45% from their 11 preceding UCL semi-final ties, but have gone on to win the UCL itself just 40% of the time they have progressed from a semi-final. After becoming the first side ever to score eight in a UCL knockout match, Bayern have boosted their average winning margin to 3.44 across their nine prior UCL matches this term (W9, D/L0).
Lyon’s only prior UCL semi-final appearance came in 2010 – also the last occasion on which a French manager had taken a French club to the UCL semis. The opponents were none other than Bayern, but Lyon lost by an average margin of exactly two goals in the tie, taking their overall UCL record against ‘Die Roten’ to: W2, D2, L4. While they may be outmatched here, Lyon have overcome their status as pre-match betting outsiders in four of their last five UCL victories.
Also continuing today are the qualification matches for the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League.
At the Centenary Stadium in Ta’ Qali, Malta, Nigerian goalkeeper Ini Akpan has a huge task of keeping the goal for Maltese giant Floriana FC when they play host to the Romanian powerhouse, CFR Cluj.
The “Railwaymen”, as CFR Cluj are popularly called, are the reigning champions of the Romanian Liga, and they have been in phenomenal form lately. They are on a four-match winning run, and they also had won eight of their former ten fixtures. Moreover, they also were unbeaten in 17 of their preceding 18 overall games, and have not lost a single road trip this whole year so far.
Floriana may be the best that Malta has to offer, but the country itself, and its football culture as well as teams are considered far inferior to their other European counterparts. Worst still, the “Tal-Irish” were winless in seven of their previous nine matches, and had won just one of their preceding six home appearances. Moreover, they have not played a single competitive game since March, and obviously are rusty.
Amidst these exciting actions across Europe, we have carefully picked a few matches in this Home and Away Wins ACCA.
We are backing the odds on favorites to triumph in the 10 selected matches. These selections have been made based on the teams’ current forms and best available head to head stats.
