It’s a weekend with loads of club football actions, especially in Europe where all the top flight leagues are in full swing.
The headline fixture on Saturday in the Premier League sees Odion Ighalo’s Manchester United go head to head with Alexander Iwobi’s Everton at the Goodison Park, Liverpool – England.
After a blistering Premier League (PL) start which saw Everton go five matches undefeated (W4, D1), they’ve now lost each of their previous two. Everton have now conceded exactly two goals in four straight PL matches, and are also without a clean sheet since an opening day victory away at Tottenham.
Manchester United’s defeat to Başakşehir on Wednesday night put further pressure on boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær after their weekend loss to Arsenal. In need of a win, the ‘Red Devils’ are winless in their previous three H2H matches with Everton (D2, L1), conceding at least once before HT in each of that trio.
Another encounter dominating this Saturday is ‘Der Klassiker’ derby involving Borussia Dortmund and Nigerian born Austrian defender David Alaba’s Bayern Munich at the Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund – Germany.
Tied on equal points at the top of the table ahead of this round, there seems no better time for another ‘Der Klassiker’ derby between the division’s best defence, Borussia Dortmund, and the highest scorers, Bayern Munich.Reigning champions Bayern have dominated this derby (W61, D33, L33), but rivals Dortmund have their 100% Bundesliga home record intact (W3) and are yet to concede here this term.
With Bayern however, goals never seem to wane, and their 24 goals scored after six rounds has broken a record set in 1973/74. In fact in midweek, the German champions became the first team in UEFA Champions League (UCL) history to score four goals in the final 15 minutes of a game as they thrashed Salzburg 6-2.
Other Nigerian players expected to be in action today include Kelechi Nwakali for Huesca at home to fellow Spanish La Liga strugglers, Huesca; Ola Aina for Fulham away at Premier League in-form team West Ham United; Tyronne Ebuehi for FC Twente away at Dutch Eredivise bottom placed Den Haag; Mikel John Obi for Stoke City away at English Championship pacesetter Reading.
