It’s another weekend with plenty of football actions taking place across leagues in Europe, Africa and Asia.
The top leagues in England, Spain, Germany, Italy, France return with exciting actions after a week hiatus owing to international break.
Headlining the exciting Saturday’s actions in English Premier League is the top-three clash between Manchester City and Leicester City parading Super Eagles duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho.
A ferocious display of counter-attacking football allowed Leicester to blitz Man City 5-2 in a frenetic early-season skirmish at the Etihad, though the Foxes’ chances of picking the Citizens off in similar fashion in the rematch seem slim.
A victory for Man City would open up a mammoth 17-point gap between themselves and second placed Man Utd with just seven games of the campaign left to contest, and the Citizens will be difficult to stop in the East Midlands.
Manchester City wield a potent blend of class and confidence at present however, and having won their last eight Premier League away games in a row, the Citizens should ultimately prove too strong for Brendan Rodgers’ charges.
Elsewhere, out of favor Super Eagles forward Simy Nwankwo will be in action for Italian Serie A basement club Crotone when they play away to the favored Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen’s Napoli.
Consecutive clean-sheet victories against fellow top-six sides have thrust Napoli back into the Champions League spot contention, and they are now unbeaten in five Serie A matches for the first time this campaign (W4, D1). Furthermore, Napoli have won eight of their previous nine competitive home matches (D1), netting the opener in all eight.
Rock-bottom Crotone lost 3-2 to Bologna last time out despite a promising 2-0 HT lead. Mathematically speaking there’s still plenty of time for them, however an unmatched 16 HT/FT losses, and a depressing average of 2.5 goals conceded per game, will no doubt be psychologically damaging.
The visitors have conceded the most goals in the top five European leagues this season, while they’ve lost 12 of their last 14 matches.
In the Spanish La Liga, Super Eagles forward Samuel Chukwueze is expected to lead the attack for Villarreal as the ‘Yellow Submarines’ seek to halt Granada’s run of four home wins.
Both Granada and Villarreal will be feeling good upon their return from the international break after securing their passages to the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals a fortnight ago, but it’s Diego Martinez’ charges who are handed the clear vote based on their recent wins here and general consistency on home soil this season.
Aside from their search for a fifth straight victory here in all competitions this weekend, Nazaries have won eight of their 14 home league matches overall this term, losing only to Valladolid, Barcelona and leaders Atletico Madrid.
Villarreal won’t be easy to overcome as Unai Emery’s men have won their last four starts, however, they have only managed to secure four victories from their 14 away trips in La Liga.
Other Nigerian players expected to be in action include: Tyronne Ebuehi for FC Twente at home to Dutch Eredivise top-four hopefuls Vitesse; Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye for Sparta Rotterdam at home to fellow Dutch Eredivise strugglers Zwolle; Zaidu Sanusi for FC Porto at home to Portuguese Primeira Liga mid-table team Santa Clara; Henry Onyekuru for Turkish SüperLig’s title hopefuls Galatasaray away at newly promoted Hatayspor.
