The president of the United Kingdom chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Chinedu Christopher Obukwelu has confirmed that its members will not attend Nigeria’s press conference on Monday ahead of the friendly match with Black stars of Ghana.
Obukwelu says they will not attend the press conference in protest against Samson Siasia’s decision to snub the press after the game against Guinea and his apology tendered later.
“My members will not attend the press conference.
“If what we heard in Nigeria immediately after the game is true, are we to believe that Samson Siasia apologised to millions of Nigerians via his media person, what an insult?” the fired up president said.
“How can you accept such apology? Is he saying that the media conference was not a place to show his face and lay a proper apology like a man? Or is he saying that the security provided by the Nigerian government couldn’t take care of situation in Abuja, someone got some explanation to do,” Obukwelu continued
He added that the Nigerian sports writers will be present for Ghana’s press conference rather.
“We will be there for the Ghana Press conference, not the Nigeria one. Nigerians deserve better; the Nigerian football lovers were those who gave him the job and he should give them much deserved respect and set a good example for the players to follow.”
The pre-match training and press conference will be at the UCL Training Ground on Monday 10 October.
The training ground is located on Bell Lane, London Colney , AL2 1BZ.
