It was party mode at the training session of Enyimba Football Club on Friday as players and journalists trooped out to celebrate the birthday of Enyimba coach, Finidi George.
The gaffer who turned 51 on Friday was treated to a surprise party by his players, who bore gifts, a cake, and other items to celebrate the milestone of the ex-international who had just been named as the 2nd assistant coach of the Super Eagles by the Nigerian Football Federation a day earlier.
Leading the celebration on behalf of the players was club captain Austin Oladapo, who stated that Finidi’s personality was the major reason the boys organized a surprise birthday party.
“We are all happy because we are celebrating our big coach who has been really nice to us, and everybody in the team is very happy.
“You could look at our WhatsApp status, Facebook and social media pages everyone was posting about the coach. When we came out this morning the atmosphere was looking quite different because we know the kind of person we are celebrating,” Oladapo said.
Speaking further Oladapo revealed that the bond between the players and their coach is on the premise that players count it a privilege to play under the ex-international.
“I think it’s a big privilege to play under an ex-International like Finidi George.
“As I said, he is a very nice man, most times he pays our bills, and at other times you see him give us things, money, and gifts. What we did I know is little but this is the only way we can show him that we appreciate what he’s been doing for us since the start of the season.”
To celebrate the day, Aba sports journalists also had a media chat with the tactician and shared in the joy of his birthday celebration.
With national team duties to think about soon, Finidi George will lead Enyimba to Port-Harcourt for a matchday 23 encounter against Rivers United on Monday, April 18.
Enyimba was beaten in Aba in the first installment of the tie via an Ishaq Rafiu’s solitary strike.
