After a short stint in Europe, fullback, Juwon Oshaniwa has told that he is happy to be back in Nigeria and playing for Akwa United.

Oshaniwa started his career at Kwara United then Lobi Stars and Sharks before moving to Ashdod in Isreal and Hearts of Midlothan in Scotland.

He returned home to join Akwa United.

Football is about movement. I really wanted to stay in Europe, but it would not make sense to be there doing nothing. I needed to keep playing and pick it up from there.

You need luck sometimes in football and maybe I fell on some tough luck as regards agents, but it is good that I joined a promising team like Akwa United,” Oshaniwa told

We have good management and good players too. We are working together here.”

Target is Super 6

Akwa United had a poor start in the League losing their first game at home 1-0 against ElKanemi. They went to Kano to draw 1-1 against Pillars, then drew at home 2-2 against Plateau United. On the road, they lost 2-0 to Nasarawa United before coming back home to win 3-0 against Go Round FC.

However, they picked up the pieces and went on a nine match unbeaten run to top the group and qualify for the Super 6.

The Super 6 has always been our target despite the fact that we started a bit slowly,” Oshaniwa told

We are all positive about it. Every body has been working and we are optimistic.”

He decided not to speak about the chances of other clubs in the season ending play-offs, saying his only concern is Akwa United.

I am only concerned about my team and not the others. We believe in our strength and what we can do. With God on our side, I believe we will win. It will be challenging and competitive but we are set to go for it.”

Regarding our poor start, we never gave up. As a footballer you have to be positive no matter the results coming your way. One good thing about our team is that we all encouraged ourselves and believed.”

Have your say. We'd love to know what you think.
